Summary

Representative Crockett of Augusta would allow a municipality to impose a local option sales tax of up to 3%, with 50% going to the municipality, 25% to the county, and 25% to the state general fund.

UPDATE: On 2/11/10, the Taxation Committee voted unanimously ought not to pass. The bill is dead barring unforeseen action.

On 5/7/09, the Taxation Committee tabled the bill with the understanding that portions of the bill could be incorporated into LD 1088.

1/13/10 Update: This bill continues to survive. The taxation committee tabled it once again to give the sponsors time to modify. This bill is likely to receive serious consideration from the committee and legislature.
